Redbarn and Fridley CX
Sat was a bit chilly and a bit windy. The course was full of fast sweeping corners with a few tight corners thrown in, 2 sets of double barriers, and 2 run ups (one of which some people rode). I got a good start and as the race started to break up into groups I was in a small group that was losing ground to the Texas Roadhouse dudes right away. After 2-3 laps it was myself, Dewey, and Jessie racing for 3rd. I was trying to ride smart and save my legs every chance I could waiting for Dewey to lay it down. In the end it didn’t matter, cause when he went Jessie and I were no match for him. I sat on Jessie the rest of the race and didn’t have anything left to race him to the line. It’s a bit humbling to have someone just drop you at will, but I’m hanging in there a little longer every week with these fast dudes. 5th overall and 1st in the 35+.
Sunday was our race that we were hosting. Bryan found a fantastic little gem of land for a cross race and with the help of Wah and FPA they designed a great course. After an easy spin to see what I thought of the course after we set it up I was griping about the pinwheel being to long. After doing the race I don’t think it was bad at all, as a matter a fact it proved to be an excellent recovery spot where you still had to have some bike skills even while recovering. Wah had some wicked nasty evil setup on the only hill in Fridley. My favorite part of the course was designed by FPA. I can’t explain it, but it was everything I love about cross. Twistyand gnarly. Great job guys.
As for the race, good start right on Wahs wheel into the pinwheel when all of a sudden Jared is laying on his back looking up at me. The center of that thing was some sketchy sand. I sneak by Jared and there was a 75 yard gap up to the lead group. (except for doug swanson, he was gone never to be seen again right from the gun) I closed the gap down and the race was on. I spent alot of the time on the front of our group trying to keep away from Dan Casper. Dan was at a bit of a disadvantage because this course was not favorable for a SS. Anyway I raced my ass off and in the end I got 6th overall and 2nd in the 35+
No racing this coming weekend because of a family affair. See you all at states.
