do you drive-side?

Drive-side dismounts/portaging/remounts: important skill set, or not necessary if you’re good enough in the non-drive side?

I ask because my training program has me practicing on both sides on skill days. I’ve been told by various sources that drive-siding is generally unnecessary, but I don’t think it would be on the plan if it wasn’t minimally important. To be fair, I should mention it’s easy for me to go drive-side because I run double guards up front that keep me from being accidentally gored by my chainring.

I’ve heard that they aren’t really necessary, but would continue the practice for the following reasons: 1. the rare situation when drive-side is the fastest way over a barrier. 2. It freaks out those behind you and might give you an advantage because so.

I dont even try ‘em, so rock on!

My svengali of cyclocross - Adam Myerson - doesn’t mention it at all in his instructional video:

I’ve never heard of it, but maybe the Pro’s can all do it, and we just don’t hear about it.

13 years racing cross…I’ve never attempted the drive-side dismount…get the regular side dialed so you can do it in your sleep pitch dark
