Weekend Races

Monday, October 6th, 2008

The 2 races this weekend were both fun as hell. Great courses and pretty decent weather. I thought the motocross or bmx (which was it?) park was an awesome part of the course on Sat and the run on the beach was evil on Sun. I’m having to much fun on the cross rig this year. The team is awesome, the weather has been great, and the courses have all been pretty crossy.

A few things that come to mind about this past weekend. Pmax, that’s just good stuff with Alex dude. The not so good, my little bro was rockin a cross race down in N.C. Sun and got caught up in a pile up at the start of the race. He got up and finished the race and on the drive home his wrist started swelling up. It ended up being fractured, but he’s a Faulkner so I’m sure he spent most of today perfecting one-handed cross skillz.

Crossin in Corcoran

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Another gorgeous Saturday for racing. The course was way fun. The piece through the motocross course from the weekend prior was a gas! Taylor, Kurt, Erik and I lined up for the Cat 4 race. We went off hard, and there was a pile up in the first corner. Taylor, Erik and I made it through unscathed and ended up riding pretty much together for the whole race. Taylor and Erik duked it out for a couple of laps with Taylor eventually pulling ahead. I chased them both the whole time, and finally caught Erik and passed him on the last climb of the last lap. He cheered me on  as I passed with a cheerful “you fu*ker”.  As we rounded the next corner, he came charging back past me and I volleyed the F- bomb back at him and the drag race was on. We charged hard to the line, and Erik dominated the sprint. Fu*cker.

Why I love the crossniac’s syndicate

Monday, October 6th, 2008

When I had the idea of putting together a cross team it was to put together the greatest guys you’ve ever met and rode with. Guys that would self-sacrifice themselves day in and day out and would give more then they get…

This weekend made me proud. PMax teaches at an inner-city school with kids on the edge of trouble and he brought one of his students to the races this weekend and gave the kid his bike and shoes and got him into cross…then today after his student was done, he had completely toasted his brake pads from all the mud. FPA instantly jumped in and gave PMax the brake pads off his bike….and I gave PMax a new set of Ritchey clinchers, since I had no use for them…

Give back….it pays so much more and is so much more rewarding.

Hudson Cross A-Race

Monday, October 6th, 2008

For those who love the muddy and technical crossy stuff, today was their day….It rained all morning leaving the course with some serious mud sections…add to that a long beach run and there was no recovery anywhere on the course. I got a good start and then I lost a little bit every lap in the technical muddy stuff. Even though the course didn’t suit me, I had fun. The crossniacs were out in full force today with 4 in the top 5 for 35+ (Guy, CJ, PMax, Wah). I rolled in 14th overall 5th in 35+.

Vote NO on chip timing

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Wanna mix it up a little here: A couple mn guys are trying to introduce chip timing to our cyclocross races. They’re also pushing Pre-Reg. $25 pre, $30 day-of. $30 is INSANE. I just cant see it. I’d like ask everyone: How much are you paying to race? Are your racing going Pre-Reg?  Chip timing is stupid. For cross. Hell, its stupid for road racing (it counter-acts the notion of team work). Keep that shit in triathlons. It makes sense there. Here are my problems with that stuff:-chip timing. Isn’t cyclocross 1hr+1 lap (or 30 min, 45 min). Whats a chip gonna do, tell me I went more or less? Seriously… -Pre-reg. I have a huge chip on my shoulder about pre-reg. I get it when there are field limits, but I still dont like it. I’m one of those guys who wont know he’s racing until he’s in the car driving there, what with the kids, the family… So I get a financial kick in the shins since I cant pre-reg. SO I dont like it. But cross races dont have the same field limits, do they? And MN has a fraction of the participants showing than Seattle/Portland does. Its not even an issue here. $30 for a cross race? Why? Anyways… Thoughts? FPA

Lets race! Orono,MN Hudson, WI

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

I have a student coming out to race on Saturday.  I hope he has a great experience.  Be sure to say “Hi” to Alex.  You will know who he is by his Dreads.

I plan on racing Orono for sure and am 50/50 on Hudson.  I would like to work for Jared.  If the “Duece” (Dewy Dicky) is there we race for second, if he is not we race for first.  OK Jared?
