    Dirty Kanza 2009

    Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

    The CO Posse represented at the 2009 Dirty Kanza.  85 racers toed the line, only 15 finished due to heat, wind, and topography.  Chad “the muscle” Meinert rode strong with the front group putting in a steady effort over 205 miles to place 7th overall in a time of 19 hours and 26 minutes.  I on the other hand struggled with the heat and wind early on, but was persistent in my effort which paid off in the end.  I was able to ride the last 62 miles with Chad to claim the single speed victory.  I was not the strongest rider out there but due to attrition I got it done.

    Evershed Cycles

    Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

    Team;

    How is your summer flowing? June already. Cross season is just a blink away; especially if you got kids.

    Hey, The Mpls Syndicate has been checking out Evershed Cycles. Evershed Mattingly is an energetic bike builder in the south minneapolis neighborhood. He’s building me a steel s/s cross frame and fork. I thought I’d occassionally throw pics up here so you can check out the progress.

    Watch for more evershed news as we get closer to cross season.

    Afton Alps Race MNSCS #2.

    Monday, June 1st, 2009

    Rather than race the Comp race and complete 3 laps at 1.15 in the afternoon when it would probably be 85 and sunny, I went with the option of the morning Sport class with fellow Crossniacs Mike and Erik.

    We all lined up at the back, Mike and Erik on single speeds and me being in the 45 + group. As expected, Mike sprinted down the side of the field and as I can not help myself, I chased after him. Some where in the first 50 yards I must have passed Mike, he reappeared just before the Bridge Loop on the second lap. We completed the last lap together until the last descent were youth got a gap and managed to move up a sport as Mike past a rider in the last 3 feet!

    I finished 1st in my age group and 17th overall. Mike was in Second in his age group and 15th. Erik took it easy for his first race on a new collar bone.

    CJ…How did you race go?
