Afton - Green Acres
Monday, October 27th, 2008Another double race weekend for me. Felt completely flat on Saturday. I guess it was just one of those days. I tried a little of everything to see if I could get the engine firing. Slowing down, hanging on wheels as they went by, throwing my bike up the run-up and chasing it down…nothing really worked. Oh, well. Sunday turned out to be a much better day. The weather was more ”crossy” for sure. Mid 30’s, heavy winds, and some snow / rain mixed in. Big monster climb right off the start. Based on my ride the previous day I decided to sit back and see how things panned out. I think the weather and course worked to my advantage as you were forced to ride steady to maintain traction. I found CJ early after the first climb and we set a tempo together and slowly started to real people in. It was a total blast to ride with a teammate and we got into a really great rhythm. It should be mentioned that CJ and I have a not so positive history of riding together as usually one or both of us crash. Yesterday was no exception. CJ went down first in a slight off-camber section coming to a barrier. It was a slow motion comedy. I was just below CJ and he yells ”I’m crashing, watch out dude!” He goes down and swipes my bike out from under me. No major damage, just some lost pride, but the crowd really liked the action. One good turn deserves another and I took myself out on the last lap just a couple turns from the finish. Total bone head move. I got up and rolled across just behind CJ. All in all a really great day crossing. Now I have to repair the bike damage in time for next week!

Afton and Green Acres
Monday, October 27th, 2008Great courses both days. Both had spots that hurt you alot. A killer run-up in Afton and a tough ridable hill at Green Acres. The weather was cold and damp Sunday with plenty of snow showers. Way crossy.
Sat I was real sick, felt much better on Sun, and I’m pleased with the results both days. Sunday I spent the day hanging onto wheels just trying to finish. It was frustrating. Sun I rocked the whole race with crossniac Guy Alverez. Guy was a damn beast on the flat headwind section and he towed me around up there every lap. He gapped me on the last lap and I couldn’t close back up to him. He held his gap all the way to the downhill were he went down on a way nasty muddy corner. It was a bummer cause he towed my ass around on the tough spots all day.
10th in the A’s-4th in 35+ on Sat
8th in the A’s-3rd in 35+ on Sun
Monday, a sweet sweet rest day.
N8, Eric, Frisky, Ladric, etc…Ya’ll are awesome teammates. Standing out in that shit and doing hand-ups and what not after racing probably sucked alot. Thanks dudes.

BASP #1
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008What a great opening to the series - hard racing with hundreds of your closest friends! The course was just as brutal as last year with the traditional monster run-up, lung-bursting climbs and enough gopher holes to turn your crotch into hamburger.
(A Men on the run-up)
The C race went well, although I did lose a lot of pop in the second half and ended up finishing 9th.
Unfortunately I’m a bit under the weather right now, so I probably won’t race this weekend. Blah. I should be back on track for BASP #2 @ Candlestick though, which is good because that one is totally my type of course: a few bumps here and there, but mostly flat and fast. Why should climbers get to have all the fun?!?
